of Mind When You
Need it Most.
Roblox has become a virtual playground for millions of children. But beneath the surface, it has also become a virtual hunting ground for sexual predators looking for child victims that they can abuse both online and in the real world. As more families come forward with their nightmare stories, the platform’s failures to prevent child sexual abuse, grooming, and assault are under intense legal scrutiny, as seen by the number of Roblox lawsuits being filed in federal courts.
Just to give you a taste of how bad things are on Roblox, Bloomberg has called the situation “Roblox’s Pedophile Problem.” Hindenburg Research has called the platform, which has 39 million children under 13 who play every single day, a “Pedophile Hellscape For Kids.” Revealing Reality reveals just one of thousands (and likely tens of thousands) of experiences found on Roblox: a virtual nightclub featuring sexual undertones and suggestive avatars that was rated “mild” and fully accessible to their 10-year-old test account with no warnings.
Altman & Altman is currently reviewing Roblox cases for families whose children were harmed after interacting with predators on Roblox and, often, Discord. If your child has been exploited or abused, we can help you hold Roblox and Discord accountable by filing a lawsuit against these corporations in what is turning out to be one of the most egregious lawsuits dealing with harm to children in modern history.
Roblox is an online platform that lets users create and play millions of games, called “experiences,” built by other users. While marketed as a safe and creative space for kids, it has become a hotspot for sexual predators. Roblox features chat functions, user-generated content, and a virtual currency system (Robux), all of which can be exploited to manipulate minors.
Discord is a chat platform that allows for voice, video, and text communication, often used by gamers. Predators frequently move conversations from Roblox to Discord because it has even fewer restrictions, making it easier to groom children in private or semi-private digital spaces.
Roblox Corporation is facing lawsuits for failing to implement meaningful protections for children. This includes:
Discord is often where the most harmful grooming and exploitation take place. The platform provides predators with direct access to children and lacks the kind of moderation necessary to prevent abuse. Lawsuits allege that Discord knew or should have known about the risks and did not act.

Roblox’s moderation system is largely reactive. Harmful content, including condo games, sex clubs, and inappropriate avatars, often remains live long enough to reach children. In many cases, moderators act only after damage is already done.
Roblox users can simply enter a fake birthdate to access features like voice chat and age-restricted content. There’s no consistent or reliable identity verification to prevent adults from posing as children.
User-generated experiences are Roblox’s core feature, but they also present one of the biggest dangers. Harmful games often pass through the review system or reappear under new names even after being banned.
Roblox has been accused of building its business model around constant user engagement, even when that means exposing children to dangerous environments. Safety improvements often lag behind negative press, as seen in its delayed response to years of documented abuse.
Reports from parents and law enforcement often go unanswered or result in generic replies. Moderation teams are under-resourced and unable to respond quickly to credible threats.
Children can be exposed to or engaged in sexual conversations in chat rooms and games. Predators use slang, emojis, and intentional misspellings to bypass filters.
Groomers build trust through flattery, gifts (often Robux), and continued interaction. Over time, they isolate the child and normalize secrecy.
Predators act like caring friends or even romantic partners to break down a child’s defenses. This manipulative strategy is common in grooming dynamics.
Predators encourage children to keep secrets, avoid parental monitoring, and use alt accounts. Once trust is established, they often ask the child to switch platforms.
Abusers push boundaries slowly, starting with slightly inappropriate jokes or roleplay, then escalating to sexual content.
Discord allows voice and video chat with almost no real moderation. Predators exploit this to take grooming further in a space where parents have less visibility.
Once a predator has gained trust, they may begin demanding explicit images. Sometimes, this includes threats to share previous conversations or images if the child doesn’t comply.
Sextortion occurs when someone threatens to release explicit material unless the victim provides more content, money, or personal information.
Some predators offer Robux in exchange for nude photos or videos. Children desperate for in-game currency may feel pressured to comply.
Roblox games sometimes contain hidden sexual references, simulated sex acts, or grooming environments under innocent-sounding names.
Voice chat is harder to moderate and provides a real-time communication channel for abuse. Age verification is easily bypassed.
Some grooming cases escalate to real-world meetings. The risks of assault, kidnapping, or rape increase significantly when interactions move offline.
Numerous cases have shown predators grooming children via Roblox and Discord, then arranging in-person meetings that result in rape or sexual assault.
A 23-year-old man in Minnesota used Roblox to lure a 10-year-old girl. He later met up with her in person and sexually assaulted her. He had previously used the platform to engage with multiple minors.
In Tennessee, a man groomed a 12-year-old girl on Roblox and later traveled across state lines to meet and sexually assault her. The case resulted in a federal conviction.
A 14-year-old girl was lured from her home state to meet a predator she met through Roblox. She was sexually abused during the encounter. Law enforcement located the girl and arrested the predator in another state.
A man developed relationships with multiple minors on Roblox, eventually grooming and meeting some of them in real life. He maintained these contacts under the guise of innocent online friendships.
A predator first contacted a minor on Roblox and then moved their conversations to Discord. He later met the child in person and assaulted them. Discord records were used in the investigation.
The Bloomberg article on Roblox, scandalously titled “Roblox’s Pedophile Problem,” highlighted several issues, mainly child safety and moderation failures. Here are 3-5 key points:
The Hindenburg Research report on Roblox, “Roblox: Inflated Key Metrics For Wall Street And A Pedophile Hellscape For Kids,” made some big claims. Here are 3-4 of the most notable:
“Roblox: A Guide” by Revealing Reality is an extremely thorough research article that seeks to uncover—and succeeds—at finding all the crazy stuff happening on Roblox. Their aim is to tell parents what they really need to know about Roblox and why they should be concerned if their kid has been using the platform without extreme oversight.
This guide, based on an independent investigation by the Revealing Reality research team, is hard-hitting and heavy in facts and examples about the Roblox platform. Whether you’re a parent, policymaker, or just a responsible adult, what Revealing Reality found will make you think twice about letting your kids use Roblox ever again.
All the way back in April 2017, Ruben Sim (who was a major whistleblower that we will discuss in more detail below) got a message on Discord from a fellow Roblox user who came across a disturbing case of grooming and sexual abuse. As soon as Sim gave the anonymous user the go-ahead, he immediately sent some of the most disturbing content I have found to date while researching the online predators and sexual abuse that is supposedly rampant on Roblox.
What this user found (or more likely was sent) were transcripts of conversations from Discord between an adult man and a 15-year-old girl who met on Roblox. In the first message that the anonymous user sent to Sim, there was a video of the man masturbating while explaining the parts of his anatomy to the child. He also sent many more transcripts of conversations and other videos and photos that were exchanged.
But what was most shocking was that the predator turned out to be one of the most popular Roblox players and creators on the platform, who also had a large YouTube following. The predator’s username was MisterObvious.
MisterObvious (who no longer has a YouTube channel or an obvious online presence) was a developer on Roblox with thousands of subscribers on his YouTube account and a fanbase made up mostly of children. His account was so popular that in 2014, Roblox awarded him a BLOXY award for one of his videos.
But everything changed in June 2017, when Ruben Sims exposed him for using his fame and massive following on YouTube to not only sexually exploit that one 15-year-old, but multiple other children between the ages of 13 and 15.
The YouTube channel People Make Games (PMG) became well-known in August 2021 for its videos exposing child safety concerns. He was also famous for calling out Roblox on other allegations, most commonly that Roblox takes advantage of its users who create in-game experiences and are paid pennies on the dollar for their labor.
When Roblox requested that PMG remove its first investigative video, PMG doubled down and investigated further, eventually revealing that Roblox was struggling to control explicit and predatory activity on its platform. PMG revealed that even some of its most popular games were (and still are) wildly inappropriate for children; they were also the first outlet to discuss users bypassing Roblox’s limited moderation by taking conversations off‑platform to Discord and social media.
In 2017, Roblox shut down its official chat forum because it could no longer uphold “high standards” for a safe environment. This move was allegedly made after links to an illegal child sexual abuse site were circulated on the forum and went unchecked for some time.
Roblox also went after YouTuber Ruben Sim (real name Benjamin Robert Simon) in November 2021, but over contract and harassment claims—not safety reporting; the case was settled in early 2022 (Wikipedia).
Roblox also went after YouTuber Reuben Sim (real name Benjamin Robert Simon) in 2021, when they sued him for harassment, defamation, and violating its terms of service.
While the Roblox Corporation framed the lawsuit as being about Sim’s alleged disruptive behavior and security threats, Reuben was well‑known at this time for his YouTube videos investigating online predators and inappropriate content on Roblox. His content showed how easily predators operate on the platform and routinely criticized Roblox’s failure to protect its massive child audience.
The lawsuit between Roblox and Reuben Sim was settled out of court in early 2022. Reuben agreed to remove certain content from his YouTube channel, but he was permanently banned from the platform and had to pay Roblox $150,000; however, he was allowed to keep his YouTube channel.
Roblox has faced lawsuits over online predators using its platform to groom children, going all the way back to 2022. In October 2022, a lawsuit was filed by the parent of a child victim who accused Roblox of connecting their underage daughter to multiple abusers who sent her explicit photos using Discord and Snapchat. Both Discord and Snapchat were named in the lawsuit, in addition to Roblox.
In 2024, a joint investigation by The Washington Post, Wired, Der Spiegel, and Recorder exposed a predator network calling themselves “764” who used Roblox and Discord to push children into creating sexual, violent, and self‑harm content in the United States, Germany, and Romania. The group was eventually linked to grooming, sextortion, suicide, and even murder. As of May 2025, the FBI has been tracking roughly 250 open cases tied to 764, calling it a “transnational predator threat targeting vulnerable teens through these platforms.
Signing up for Roblox is as simple as entering a birthdate, username, and password; there’s no age verification and no need for parental consent—despite most of its players being under the age of 16.
This anonymity makes it easy for adults to pose as kids and for kids to pose as adults if they so choose. This makes it extremely hard for moderators to tell who’s who on the platform, making moderation very difficult, especially considering there are nearly 100 million players.
Former employees say they proposed certain safety backstops, like pop‑up safety warnings and default‑on stranger chat blocks, but their ideas were rejected.
Critics of Roblox argue that its AI moderation is still no match for advanced online predators who spend countless hours testing the game’s moderation and sharing any knowledge they gain in internet forums.
Investigations by YouTubers, lawsuits across multiple U.S. states, and exposés by major news outlets like Bloomberg and Hindenburg show Roblox’s safety failures have been well-known and well-documented for years.
Discord has also faced mounting criticism, including lawsuits and state‑level regulatory action, over its deceptive safety policies and its wide attraction of predator networks.
These past events that span from 2017 to the present clearly show that the predator and grooming issues on Roblox and Discord are not isolated events, nor did they only recently become a problem.
Roblox’s online predator and grooming crisis is systemic and has been for a long time. And unless we do something about it, it likely will continue.
To file a Roblox or Discord lawsuit related to child sexual exploitation, specific conditions must be met. These criteria will help you determine if your case is eligible.
If you feel your child’s situation meets these criteria, or if you have questions about the list, please contact us at Altman & Altman.
The minor must have experienced one or more of the following forms of sexual abuse:
One or more of the following must apply to show the harm suffered:
Your case is generally not eligible for a Roblox lawsuit if any of the following are true:
Victims and their families may be entitled to multiple forms of compensation depending on the nature and severity of the harm. This includes medical, financial, emotional, and punitive damages aimed at holding Roblox accountable for its negligence.
Medical and mental health compensation can include coverage for trauma therapy, psychiatric care, and ongoing psychological treatment. If the abuse resulted in hospitalization or required medication or counseling, these expenses may also be reimbursed.
Financial compensation may also be available to cover unauthorized purchases made by the child, losses incurred through Robux-based exploitation, and any deceptive charges associated with Roblox’s marketing and platform use.
Pain and suffering damages acknowledge the emotional toll on victims and their families, including anxiety, PTSD, depression, and other long-term psychological impacts. These awards help families recover and rebuild.
In cases where Roblox’s behavior is proven to be grossly negligent or reckless, courts may award punitive damages. These are meant not just to compensate the victim, but to punish Roblox Corporation and set a clear precedent to protect other children in the future.
